Characteristics of EstEnergy natural gas

NATURAL GAS – CLEAN ENERGY FROM ANAEROBIC DECOMPOSITION

Natural gas comes from the anaerobic decomposition (i.e. deprived of oxygen)  of organic material. It is pumped together with oil or from gas-only deposits.  It is a mix of hydrocarbons, consists mainly of methane (CH4) and is a gas. It is colourless, inflammable, chemically stable and poorly soluble in water. While not generally poisonous, some deposits also contain hydrogen sulphide which is a highly toxic gas.

You must therefore take the precautions outlined in the paragraph entitled  “Safety”.

Natural gas is an excellent energy source. Under normal conditions one cubic metre of natural gas produces on average about 10.6 KWh. This is an indicative figure only and may vary depending on the chemical composition of the gas being supplied. In order to optimize the power delivered EstEnergy purchases only quality natural gas.

Combustion of natural gas mainly produces water vapour (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), two gasses that exist in nature. There are no other pollutants such as particulate, sulphur dioxide or unburnt hydrocarbons. Compared to other fossil fuels the amount of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) generated from burning is much lower. This is why natural gas is known as a low environmental impact energy source.
